• Dating: This piece dates to the turn of the century (c. 1990s–2000s), corresponding with the rise of certified fair-trade artisan co-operatives in Northern Thailand. The distinct method of carving a highly detailed animal motif directly into an unmodified slab of salvaged, lightning-split, or weathered forest timber is a diagnostic signature of this specific Thai eco-art movement.

• Historical Note: Handcrafted in a remote mountain village in Northern Thailand, this plaque represents a sustainable economic alternative to commercial logging. Local woodcarving guilds utilize only dead, fallen, or recycled old structural timber, ensuring that no living trees are felled. The Asian elephant featured on the base is revered throughout Thailand as a sacred symbol of royal power, good fortune, and spiritual guardianship, making this a culturally significant piece of Thai heritage.

A remarkable fusion of natural sculpture and artisan skill, this Thai wall plaque showcases a highly detailed Asian elephant wandering along a rugged mountain ridge. The craftsman has cleverly hollowed out the lower portion of a rugged, highly textured slab of reclaimed wood to reveal a beautifully chiseled, three-dimensional elephant walking with its trunk curled around a bundle of fodder. The upper two-thirds of the piece are left in their wild, raw state, displaying deep fissures and eroded grain channels that mimic a soaring clifftop.

• Sustainable Craft Principles: Accompanied by its original artisan card verifying its creation from old, naturally cured recycled wood.

• One-of-a-Kind Form: The carver adapts the composition to match the natural perimeter of the salvaged timber, making every single plaque completely unique.

• Ready to Install: Fitted with a robust, flush-mounted metal sawtooth bracket screwed directly into the reverse side for secure wall mounting.

This sculpture is in excellent natural condition. It is structurally solid with no modern damage, breaks, or non-intentional splits. The deep cracks, weathered channels, and uneven live edges along the top and reverse are completely original characteristics of the aged, reclaimed timber used by the artisan. The hand-carved elephant detailing remains incredibly sharp with no chips to the ears, trunk, or feet, and the original protective matte wax finish is perfectly preserved.
