• Dating: This decorative trio dates to the late 1990s window. The combination of hand-carved wood bodies, distressed edges, and a muted, heritage-inspired color palette is highly characteristic of the rustic French country and primitive American folk-art movements that heavily influenced British interior design during the late 20th century.

• Historical Note: Novelty hen and rooster kitchen ornaments have long been a symbol of warmth and hospitality in traditional country homes. Shifting away from formal silver or plastic placeholders, these whimsical folk-art pieces were designed to be both decorative and utilitarian. The integration of a sturdy, coiled wire tail allowed families to display recipes, notes, shopping lists, or beloved family photographs directly on a farmhouse kitchen counter, dresser, or Easter buffet table. During the festive season, they double beautifully as rustic tabletop stands to showcase holiday greetings and Christmas cards along a mantlepiece.

A charming and highly characterful trio of vintage wooden hen photo holders, this set brings an instant touch of cozy farmhouse style to any room. Each bird is individually hand-carved with a blocky, primitive silhouette, mounted securely on a slender wooden dowel and anchored by a solid, rectangular pedestal base.

• Three Cohesive Heritage Tones: The set comprises three complimentary chalky pastel shades—one deep barn red, one mustard yellow, and one soft sage grey—each adorned with contrasting hand-painted polka dots.

• Functional Coiled Wire Tails: Every hen features an upward-curling, sturdy steel wire tail designed to pinch and securely hold family photographs, postcards, recipes, or daily reminders.

• Festive Display Alternative: The strong tension of the wire coils makes this trio an excellent choice for a rustic holiday layout, holding up seasonal greetings and Christmas cards beautifully on a windowsill.

• Primitive Sculptural Details: The birds are finished with simple geometric shapes, featuring crown-like red combs, triangular wooden beaks, and a subtle textured grain from the hand-carving process.

This standing trio set is in very good vintage condition, presenting beautifully with a wonderful aged character. The solid wooden bodies, dowel stems, and rectangular block bases are structurally sound, free from cracks, splitting, or previous repairs.

The hand-painted finishes are clean, and the coiled steel wire clips are firm, straight, and fully functional. The intentional distressed scuffs, sanded corners, and minor factory paint irregularities are part of the original design to give the pieces a weathered, time-worn country house appeal. The undersides of the bases are clean and sit flat without rocking.
